Robert W. Klann, 92, of Moline, Illinois, a decorated veteran of WW II, died Monday, December 1, 2014, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. Scott Carlson officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline.
Robert Woods Klann was born August 15, 1922, in Moline, to Fred and Ethel (Trimble) Klann,. He served in the U. S. Army infantry in the European Theater, and received the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, and married Shirley Maxine Winborn on July 5, 1952, in Davenport, Iowa. He worked at the Deere and Company Tech Center for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and was a life member of the American Society of Metallurgists. He loved planting flowers and working in his garden, and enjoyed reading and computers,
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; three children, David Klann and his fiancée Theresa Zugmaier of Bettendorf, Iowa, Cathy Schwabe and her husband Greg of Moline, and Susan Ryder and her husband John of East Moline; and five grandchildren and their spouses, Zachary Klann, Brittany and Mike Williams, Josh and Tasha Schwabe, John Ryder, and Katie Ryder.
