Robert S. Fleming

Robert S. Fleming, 93, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in his home.

Visitation 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 30th in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. Becky David officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, or Moline Rotary Foundation.

Robert Spencer Fleming was born October 23, 1927, in Riverside, California, the son of Wilbur and Dorothy (Snell) Fleming. He graduated from Denison University and attended Ohio State University Law School before being drafted into the military. He married Caroline Warfield on July 29, 1952, in Moline. He served in the US Navy during both WW II and the Korean War. He spent nearly 30 years as an executive at Deere and Company, retiring in 1982, and then served as a Municipal Court Magistrate in Iowa for three years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Moline, the Moline Rotary Club, and served as treasurer and greeter at Wabaningo Community Church in Whitehall, Michigan. He enjoyed spending the winter holidays in Sarasota, FL, and summers at the family cottage in Sylvan Beach, Michigan, his favorite place on earth. His summers were spent playing tennis, badminton, swimming in Lake Michigan, and playing golf, which he took up after retirement. He got his first hole-in-one at age 75 and continued to play into his late 80’s.

Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Caroline; four children and their spouses, Susan Schuler of Sarasota, Florida, Mary and Scott Francis of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, William and Sufia Fleming of West Palm Beach, Florida, David Fleming and fiancée Jacklyn Headrick of Aurora, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jillian Schuler and her husband Walter Beer, T. J. Schuler, Bobby Francis, and Sarah Francis; and his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Fleming of La Mesa, California.
