Robert R. Jones, 80, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, April 3, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, at Trimble Funeral Home, 1700 First Street, Coal Valley. Private family services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2815 West 3rd Street, Coal Valley. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory and burial will be in Colona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Colona Food Pantry.
Robert Raymond Jones was born June 5, 1940, in Geneseo, Illinois, to Raymond and Gertrude (Gainey) Jones. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1958, and married Janice Matzen on April 8, 1961, in Coal Valley. He was a life-long farmer. He was past president of the Henry County Pork Producers, and a member of the Henry County Fair Board and Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid tractor puller, helped organize the West Central Illinois Tractor Pullers, and was the announcer for many Midwest tractor pulls. He loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, and riding in the truck with his dog Mya.
Bob is survived by his wife, Janice; two children and spouses, Tammara and Dean Verbeck of Annawan, Illinois, and Brian and Candy Jones of Colona, Illinois; six grandchildren, Bridgett Wildermuth and her husband Taylor, Chelsea Verbeck and her fiancée Jon DeMay, and Mason, Alexandra, Logan, and Preston Jones; a great-granddaughter, Camille Wildermuth; a sister, Doris Beuseling of Milan; and a close friend Angela Caudill of Coal Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Gladys, Johnson, Lois Goetz, and Harold Jones.
