Robert H. Mitchell

Robert H. Mitchell, 98, of East Moline, Illinois, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors.

Robert Henry Mitchell was born February 27, 1922, in Farmer City, Illinois, the son of Edward and Edna (Crabtree) Mitchell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Mabel G. Nicholson on August 25, 1952, in Moline. She died June 30, 2018. He worked as a supervisor of buildings and grounds for the Moline School District #40 for many years.

He was a member of the Moline American Legion Post #246 and Moline VFW Chapter #2153. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and helping others with home repairs.

Bob is survived a son, Steve Vergane of Moline; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laverne Whisman of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son and daughters-in-law, Rodger (Joyce) Vergane and Linda Vergane; a grandson, Robert Vergane, four brothers, and a sister.
