Robert E. Lee

December 18, 1951 — October 24, 2016

Robert E. Lee, 64, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, October 24, 2016, at home.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Robert Edward Lee was born December 18, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Robert Norman and Donna (Dalley) Lee. He married Adell Newman on December 17, 2002, in Rock Island.

Bob attended Bradford schools until 1968, when he transferred to Riverdale High School, graduating in 1970. While in high school, he was active in band, chorus, and was a standout defensive tackle on the football team and named as an All-State Defensive Tackle in 1968-1970 . He was active in Boy Scouts, and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 16.

He earned a B.S. in Psychology from Western Illinois University in Macomb in 1974, a M.S. in Psychology from Illinois State in Normal in 1977, a L.C.S.W. from the University of Iowa around 1980, and completed all of his doctoral level courses in statistics at the University of Iowa.

Bob was a social worker for Bethany Homes in Moline for several years before becoming a professor of psychology and statistics for Blackhawk College's Kewanee Campus, where he worked for 34 years. He retired as a Professor Emeritus.

He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Davenport before its closing. Bob's lineage was traced to his link to Civil War General Robert E. Lee as a cousin, and thus was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was active in Boy Scouts, serving as a troop leader in Moline for six years, and achieving the "Order of the Arrow". He enjoyed being outdoors - fishing, camping, mushroom and arrowhead hunting, and while he didn't like to hunt, he did like shooting the guns. He was a very intellectual man who enjoyed conversations and debates, wrote several grants, and published three books on virology research. Above all else, he loved his family, and always made time for his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Adell; four children, Heather and Fred Lindquist of Rapids City, Illinois, Amanda and Adam Ball of Selma, Texas, Abigail and Joshua Cox of East Moline, and Alexander and Xiomara Lee of Naples, Italy; and seven grandchildren. Bob also had very close and loving relationships with his two stepsons and their families, Clayton and Adriana Newman of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Thaddeus Specht of Prophetstown, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents.
