Viola, Illinois Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Dowd, 73 of Viola will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church, Aledo. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with Military Honors. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo with Masonic Rites. Memorials may be made to the Robert Dowd Memorial Fund. Bob died on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Bob was born on February 10, 1930 in Viola, Illinois to Harry and Harriett (Beard) Dowd. He married Betty Luxmore on May 20, 1962 at the Bethel Baptist Church, Galesburg. Bob was employed with Thede's, Aledo; Farmall Tractor Works, Rock Island and retired from Monmouth Implement in 1992. He was a well known talented mechanic in the area. Bob was with the Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church, Aledo and held many offices of the church, including Church Clerk and trustee. He was also a member of the Viola Masonic Lodge #577 AF & AM and held many offices at the lodge. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and working on machinery. Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; 3 sons and their wives: Robert Alan and Janella Dowd of Covington, KY; Donald and Anna Dowd of Aledo and David and Jennifer Dowd of Peoria Heights; 2 sisters: Julie Baldwin of Moline and Mary and Jim Venable of Bettendorf; 2 brothers: Jerry and Mary Dowd of Aledo and John Dowd. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren: Brandon, Benjamin, Kaitlyn and William Dowd; Austin Hageman; Bonnie, Kailee, Natalie and Nathan Dowd.
