Robert D. Karwath, 80, of Davenport, Iowa, well-known Davenport businessman, died Monday, March 20, 2017, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Davenport. Burial is in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until funeral time. Memorials may be made to Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation, or Madeline Island Medical Clinic. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is serving the family.
A fifth generation Davenport resident, Robert Duvall Karwath was born February 8, 1937, in Davenport, to Earl Fidel and Lois Duvall Karwath. He graduated from Beloit College in 1959, and married Linda Bart on June 17, 1961, in West Bend, Wisconsin. Following graduation, he joined his family's insurance agency, Karwath Insurance, and served the Quad City community for 56 years, retiring in 2015. Bob was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church for many years, and was on the board of Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation, Oakdale Memorial Gardens, and The Outing Club, where he served as President. He was a member of Sigma Chi at Beloit College, Masonic Lodge, Kaaba Shrine and Scottish Rite, Lindsey Park Yacht Club, and Gyros Club. He loved vacationing on Madeline Island, where he and Linda hosted their grandchildren at Kamp Karwath, and boating on the Mississippi River and Lake Superior.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Robert D. Karwath Jr. and his partner, Ann Robertson, of Duluth, Minnesota, and Bart A. Karwath and his wife, Karen, of Carmel, Indiana; four grandchildren, Madeline, Robert III, Greta, and Robin; two step-grandchildren, Lacey and Christina; and a brother Richard Karwath and his wife Joyce Bawden of Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
