Robert C. Van Oteghem, 98, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, May 21, 2018, in his home.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, with Rev. Ben Ruyack officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post #227 will present military honors. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or to a favorite charity.
Robert Charles Van Oteghem was born April 14, 1920, in Moline, the son of Alfonse and Florence (Hoogerwerf) Van Oteghem. He married Norma McCartney on August 2, 1941, in East Moline, Illinois. She died February 19, 2018. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he took part in the Normandy Invasion.
Bob was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, and the UAW Local 865. He enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors (especially gardening and doing yardwork), and was an avid Chicago Cubs' fan. In his younger days, he spent a lot of time fishing and hunting. Above all else, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Van Oteghem of Moline; grandsons, Steve and David Van Oteghem, both of Moline; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle, and Gabrielle Van Oteghem, and Alyssa Nuno; great-great-grandchildren, Lucy and Eden Van Oteghem, and Avery Byrne; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Sally Van Oteghem. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Van Oteghem, a grandson, Jeffrey Van Oteghem, and brothers, Richard, Leonard, and William Van Oteghem.
