Port Byron, Illinois Services for Rita P. Schroeder, 68, of Port Byron, Illinois, are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice or American Lung Association. Mrs. Schroeder died Saturday, December 11, 2004, in her home, with her husband and children around her. The former Rita Pearl Howell was born November 28, 1936, in Moline, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Poole) Howell. She married Herman A. Schroeder on December 7, 1957, in East Moline. In earlier years, she had worked for John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. She called herself a "sewing artist" and was a master quilter, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, doing crafts, and playing the piano. Rita is survived by her husband of 47 years, Herman; two children and their spouses, Timothy A. and Donna Schroeder of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Jodee L. and Joe Barton of Roseville, California; four grandchildren, Katie and Emily Schroeder and Jessica and Julia Barton; and three sisters and their husbands, Diane and Harold Polenske of Port Byron, Sharon and Larry Anderson of Hampton, and Wanda and Jim Kerner of Port Byron.
