Rita Pauline Ontiveros, 66, of Moline, Illinois, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, following an extended illness.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
Rita was born June 29, 1950, in Moline, to John and Josephine (Rocha) Ontiveros. She graduated from Moline High School in 1969 and from Cele Whan Academy of Beauty in 1971. For many years, she was the owner of Ontee's on Avenue of the Cities in Moline. Rita's creativity and vision made Ontee's a leading hair salon in the Quad Cities. Her clients were many and from well beyond the area. Ontee's was also the first Aveda Salon in the Quad Cities long before they introduced the so-called "Concept" salons.
Rita was a lover of family and though she never had children, she nurtured many a niece, nephew, and sibling through their formative years. Moreover, she continued to "pay it forward" before it was well-known, by supporting several immigrant families until they could make it on their own. She was also a mentor to countless hairdressers over her long career. Rita enjoyed life and gave much to others. She is now uplifted and enjoying her rich rewards with her Maker for all time.
Rita is survived by her brothers and sisters (and spouses), John (Laura) Ontiveros of Fort Wayne, Ind., Robert (Blenda) Ontiveros of Moline, Larry (Linda) Ontiveros of Moline, Frank (Lorna) Ontiveros of Milan, Christine (Jeff) Reem of Moline, Jo Ann (Ray) Bender of Milan, Michael Ontiveros of Moline, and Cindy (Dave) Newton of Moline; 13 nephews and nieces; and 20 great-nephews and -nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
