Riley John Bennett was born on February 25, 1994, in Davenport, Iowa, to Dennis C. and Cheryl A. (VanHyfte) Bennett. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 2012 and pursued a career in painting, most recently working for S & L Painting. Prior to that, he held positions at Hy-Vee in Rock Island, Finish Line at SouthPark Mall, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Riley’s love for hockey began in childhood after attending a Quad City Mallards game with his parents. He played for the Quad-City Blues from 2009 to 2012, contributing to the team’s 2010-2011 State Championship victory. He also played with the Quad City Ice Eagles and continued his passion for the sport in an adult league.

Riley’s kind and compassionate nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Known for his generosity and ability to connect with people from all walks of life, he was a social butterfly who always found ways to lend a helping hand. He loved helping children, volunteering in numerous hockey and basketball events over the years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and working on cars with his dad.

Recently, Riley channeled his creativity into launching Riley’s Reclaimed, a custom woodworking and laser engraving business. His love for woodworking came from his Uncle Larry on his visits growing up. Riley’s craftsmanship and creativity with wood brought joy to friends and family alike, as he always made personalized special keepsakes.

Family and friends were central to Riley’s life. He cherished his parents and his sister, Annie, above all else. His beloved dog, Sydney, was his constant companion and brought him great joy.

Riley is survived by his loving parents, Dennis and Cheryl Bennett of Rock Island; his sister, Anniece “Annie” Bennett of Rock Island; aunts and uncles, Barbara (Darin) Estell, James “Jim” (Cindy Williamson) VanHyfte, Mary Daniels, Michael (Lynn) VanHyfte, Bonni (Larry) Yeager , Al Bennett, Donna (Marv) Fowler; his beloved dog, Sydney; and many cousins and friends including good friends, Signe Maurus and Rhayn Fullerlove.
