Richard W. Ernst, 77, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at home.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.
Dick was born July 31, 1939, in Davenport, the son of Joseph and Marjorie (Puls) Ernst. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years. He married Lesa Melton in 1999, in Ophiem, Illinois.
Dick was a cabinetmaker and carpenter, owning and operating Jansen and Ernst for many years before working for Ringling Johnson. He retired in 2001.
He was a member of the Elks, Optimist Club, and was a Shriner. Cabinetmaking and woodworking was his hobby as well as his career. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dad.
Dick is survived by his wife, Lesa; a son, Scott (Arnell) Ernst of Waterloo, Iowa; two grandsons, Alex and Ryan Ernst; step-children, Cassey (Paul) Marshall of East Moline, and Joshua (Andrea) Ryckeghem of Moline; and a sister, JoAnne (Mike) Klehn of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill.
