Richard C. Perschmann, 87, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in an automobile accident near DeWitt, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, with which he participated in May.
Richard Charles Perschmann was born November 25, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Enslen Carl and Lillian Corrine Franzen Perschmann. A proud Veteran, he served in the U. S. Army during WW II and died on Veterans Day.
Richard was a long time sports announcer, writer, and promoter. He did sports broadcasting throughout the country using the name Dick Charles. He was active in the American Basketball Association and designed the first manual scoreboard, and was Commissioner of the National Bowling League for many years. He was a avid Bridge player, and played in tournaments throughout the country, earning the title ?Ace of Spades.? He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed casinos.
Dick is survived by five children, Rick Abelson of Plymouth, Minnesota, Gary Perschmann and his wife Cindy of Coal Valley, Bill Perschmann of Beaumont, Texas, Kim Baron and her husband Steve of Burlington, Connecticut, and Rebel Bowling of Tampa, Florida; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Eva Fuglsang of DeWitt. He was preceded in death by two sons, Randy Perschmann and Paul Perschmann, a professional wrestler known as Playboy Buddy Rose; and a brother, Robert Perschmann.
