Richard L. Eaton, 76, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died on Thursday, September 15, 2016, in his residence, from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, 1700 1st Street, Coal Valley, Illinois. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Sherman Lodge #535, Orion, AF & AM, will conduct Masonic funeral services at 6:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ALS Association, Greater Chicago Chapter.

Richard Lloyd Eaton was born January 7, 1940, in Milan, Illinois, to Charles McKinley and Lou Dollie (Milburn) Eaton. He was raised by his father and step-mother, Edna, He married Shirley Tisdale on May 29, 1958, in Moline. She died December 15, 1994. He was a self-employed plastering contractor, operating Richard L. Eaton Plastering for over 40 years, retiring in 2004. He was the master plasterer of the Quad Cities, and taught younger plasterers to "do it right," many of whom now own their own plastering businesses. He was a man of many talents and interests. He loved the outdoors and gardening, was the "go-to" guy in his neighborhood and was willing to help anyone. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and enjoyed visiting the gambling boats.

Dick is survived by two daughters and three sons-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Kapple of Silvis, Illinois, Tracy and Dave Paarmann of DeWitt, Iowa, and Randall Jasper of Coal Valley; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his step-mother, Edna Kuehl of Rock Island; four sisters, Peggy Hays of South Carolina, Pearl Walker of Alabama, Pat Chance of East Moline, and Cindy Eaton of Milan; and his partner, Gloria Stiles of Orion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Penny Jasper; and his brother, Charles Eaton.
