Richard J. “R. J.“ Hessler, 83, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, in Big Meadows Nursing home, Savanna, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend David Schultz officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association.
R. J. Was born June 14, 1923, in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Martin and Alida (Westburg) Hessler. He married Hazel Morris on July 30, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was forklift driver at International Harvester Works, East Moline, for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of UAW, American Legion Post #246, Moline, and American Trapshooting Association. He enjoyed hunting, trapshooting and gardening.
R. J. is survived by his wife, Hazel; a daughter, Cheryl Hamilton of Moline; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Kerrie Hessler of Orion, Illinois; five grandchildren and spouses, Christopher Hamilton, Megan Hamilton, Patrick and Julie Hessler, Nicholas and Krissy Hessler and Shaun Hessler, and three great-grandchildren, Caden, Caylie and Cael Hessler.
