Richard "Dick" Nystrom, 93, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Memorial Services are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, with Reverend Randy Willers officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery prior to services. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
Richard George Nystrom was born March 9, 1917, in Moline, the son of Carl and Lila (Meinken) Nystrom, and was also raised by his step-mother, Bernice Neuleib. He graduated from Moline High School in 1935. He married Dorothy Johnson on June 14, 1947, in Moline. He served in the United States Army during World War II and later during the Korean Conflict, ending up as a First Lieutenant.
Dick worked as a territory manager for Deere & Company for 42 years, retiring in 1978. He was a long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing and tennis.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Dorothy, a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and John Soma of Denver, Colorado, a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Dean Nelson of Davisberg, Michigan, and grandchildren, Matthew Soma and Christina Soma of Denver. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Nystrom, and a sister, Elaine Bauer.
