Richard B. "Dick" Swick, 82, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, August 17, 2018, in his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, with The Rev. Ed Kuriscak officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, following a funeral luncheon at the church. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is serving the family.
Richard Burroughs Swick was born October 10, 1935, in Washington, Iowa, to Harold and Bashie (Burroughs) Swick. He served in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1958, and married Karen Wickham on December 4, 1958, in Boise, Idaho. He was a union steelworker at Alcoa for 35 years, retiring in 1998, and later worked at the Two Rivers YMCA in Moline. He was a long time member of Edgewood Baptist Church and was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, especially for the Cubs and Hawkeyes. Dick never met a stranger, enjoyed helping other people, and loved spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Karen; three children and spouses, Sheila and Joel Grafton of Orion, Wayne and Denise Swick of Naples, Florida, and Marci Gordon of Silvis; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Anderson and her husband Bill of Plantation, Florida. He was preceded in death by a son, John Swick, a sister, Elaine Hamm, and a brother Harold Swick in infancy.
