Richard A. Young, 76, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014, in his home.
Visitation is 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, 701 12th Street, Moline. Graveside services will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to Grace Korean Church, Moline.
Richard Allan Young was born August 4, 1938, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Francis and Anna (Albee) Young. He served in the United States Army from 1956 until retiring as a Sargent Major in 1984. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning many commendations including a Bronze Star Medal. He served in Seoul, Korea for one year starting in 1981, where he met and married Hyon Kang on March 9, 1982.
After retiring from the Army, Dick worked as a writer and manager at Barnes & Reinecke in Davenport, Iowa, and later as an equipment specialist on the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2000 after 11 years. He enjoyed traveling, especially camping.
Dick is survived by his wife, Hyon Young of Moline, and children, Kathy, Thomas, and their families, and Sarah Young. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judith Spears.
