Helen Santel, 93, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, March 21, 2011, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery.
The former Helen Marie Nelson was born March 2, 1918, in Rio, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Ellen (Carlson) Nelson. She married Arden Santel on February 9, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died January 4, 2006.
Helen worked for International Harvester in East Moline as a tool design clerk for 35 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the UAW Local 1356, AARP, and the Vikings Club. She enjoyed golfing and dancing in her younger years.
Helen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Fred Sr. and Nancy Sorrento of Naples, Florida; a grandson and his wife and children, Fred Jr. and Kerri Sorrento, and Maddie, Sophia, and Jack; a granddaughter and her husband and children, Dawn and Larry Ahearn, and Austin, Luke, and Emma; a sister, Rose Carlson of Silvis, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Nelson, Ruth Snyder, and Ruby VanHoek, and a brother, Phillip Nelson.
