Raymond D. Pierce, 79, of Colona, Illinois, died Monday, December 31, 2012, in Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
Raymond Dale Pierce was born December 20, 1933, in Moline, the son of Pauline Maude Kennedy and Wesley Roy Pierce. He married Norma Newland on July 28, 1955, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Ray served 20 years in the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He retired from Roadway Express after 20 years.
Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma; sons, Raymond (Tammy) Pierce of Orem, Utah, Wayne (Tamara) Pierce of Savannah, Georgia, and Wesley (Jean) Pierce of West Jordan, Utah; grandchildren, Raette Welch, and Michael, Jason, Ashley, Sariah, and Lucas Pierce; great-grandchildren, Shayla and Alexander Welch; his father, Wesley Pierce of Fairfield, Illinois; siblings, Donna McTush of Clearfield, Kentucky, Gary (Betty Ann) Pierce of East Moline, Myrtle Carr of West Salem, Illinois, and Lori Pierce of Bone Gap, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, William Scott Pierce, his mother, and a brother, Wesley L. Pierce.
