Moline, Illinois Services for Ray E. Cornmesser, 86, of Moline, are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mayo Foundation or Shriner's Hospitals. Mr. Cornmesser died Sunday, September 29, 2002, in his home after fighting a prolonged illness. He was born June 23, 1916, in Exline, Iowa, the son of John Emil and Josephine Ann (Hartley) Cornmesser. He married Marjorie Brown on May 15, 1948, in Moline. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force from 1945 to 1946. He worked for the former Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company for 42 years, retiring as foreman in 1979. Prior to his induction in the Army he worked at International Harvester, Rock Island, for two years. He was a NASCAR, Cubs, and Giants fan, and enjoyed camping and traveling. He used to build houses and do remodeling. Ray is survived by his wife, Marjorie; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rilla and John Murphy of Seymour, Iowa, Nancy and Buff Hottle of Monmouth, Illinois, and Susan and Stan Roesner of Geneseo; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Rhonda Cornmesser of Port Byron, Illinois, a daughter-in-law, Joyce Cornmesser of Eldridge, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Imogene Stewart of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Cornmesser, two daughters in infancy, and six brothers, Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
