Ray Brasmer

Ray Brasmer, 82, of Moline, died, Monday, December 27, 2004, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, with the Reverend John Leaf officiating. Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, Moline or to a favorite charity. George Raymond Brasmer was born October 15, 1922 in Moline, the son of George Raymond and Amy (Smith) Brasmer. Ray married the former Ruth F. Hamilton, April 23, 1950 in East Moline, Illinois. He graduated from Moline High School in 1940, and from Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois in 1950. Ray served in the Pacific Theater during WW II and was a member of the 5041 U.S.A.R. school in Davenport, Iowa where he served as commandant from 1971 to 1975. He retired in 1982 with the rank of Colonel. He taught at Mineral, Illinois High School from 1950 to 1952. He then taught at Moline High School from 1952 to 1958 in the industrial arts. He served as coordinator of the industrial vocational arts from 1958 to 1984. He served on the council and the building committee at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, where he was a member. He was a former member of Moline Kiwanis and served as president of the Moline Educational Association and Schoolmasters Club, and was a member of the Moline American Legion, Post 246. He enjoyed restoring a 1931 Ford Coupe, and also building furniture and NASCAR Racing. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, sons and daughter-in-law, David Brasmer, Brawley, California, Paul and Marian Brasmer of Sterling Heights, Michigan, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tom McKinley of Columbus, Indiana, and two grandchildren, Mark and Emily Brasmer of Sterling Heights, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Genevieve Boone.
