Raul Guerrero

Raul "Rullie" Guerrero, Sr., 90, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019, in Minneapolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by MAVA. Friends are invited to a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, immediately following burial. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.

Rullie was born April 13, 1928, in Ford City, Pennsylvania, the son of Fermin and Carmen (Ledesma) Guerrero. He graduated from Moline High School in 1946, following High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Princeton Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific during the World War II era. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Rullie married Amelia "Millie" Lopez on May 7, 1955, in Kewanee, Illinois. She died December 26, 2002. He worked for Jaydon Dist., Inc. in Rock Island, Illinois, for 38 years as a route driver, retiring in 1988.

He was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, and Saint Hedwig's Catholic Church in Minneapolis.

Rullie was an avid sports fan, but no team more than his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, he also loved reading, and enjoyed golf. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and meeting his friends for coffee on Friday mornings. After Millie retired, together they enjoyed traveling to Minneapolis so they could spend time with both of their daughters and grandchildren. They relocated there in 2001.

Those who loved him deeply and are left to remember Rullie are his daughters, Catherine (Craig) Bishop of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Susan (Doug Wheeler) Guerrero of Lancaster, Wisconsin; Rullie's grandchildren, Aundrea Carmen (Sean Wachter) Curtis and Augustus Raul (Melanie) Bishop, both also of Minneapolis; Rullie's sister and brother, Carmen (Hilario "Larry") Rodriguez of DePue, Illinois, and Ruben (Carol) Guerrero of Palm Desert, California; cousins, Cleo (Frank) Pompa and Norman (Jan) Aguirre; Millie's siblings; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Millie; their son, Raul Guerrero, Jr.; brothers, Benito Garza, Daniel Garza, Roy Guerrero, Carlos "Charlie" Guerrero and Robert Guerrero.

Since 2011 Rullie resided at River Village Assisted Living in Minneapolis where he made new friends and received excellent care. The family requests memorials be made in Rullie's name to Catholic Eldercare River Village - https://catholiceldercare.org/giving/
