Ramona A. Syms, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Bickford of Davenport.
She was born Ramona Anne Pieczynski on September 23, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William J. and Blanche (Nosal) Pieczynski. Ramona lived a remarkable life dedicated to education and cherished moments with her family and friends.
Ramona's educational journey was a testament to her dedication to learning. She achieved a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University and had a distinguished career as an educator in the Chicago Public School System. Her passion for nurturing young minds spanned over 40 years, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students.
She joined her life in matrimony with W. James Syms, DDS, and together they were blessed with two children.
Ramona's faith was an essential part of her life, and she was a dedicated member of St. Cletus Catholic Church in La Grange, Illinois. She found joy in cultural pursuits, including the Opera, Ballet, and Theater, which enriched her life. One of her simple pleasures was dining out and relishing the culinary delights of her choice.
Above all else, Ramona cherished spending time with her friends and family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. Her warm smile and kind heart will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ramona leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Daniel Cappaert of Bettendorf; three grandchildren, Carolyn (Adam) Ruan, Benjamin (Kristi) Cappaert, and Emily McDaniel; great-grandchildren, Josephine, Cameron, Madeline, Tyler, Kaeden, and Elise; as well as three nephews, Henry, John, and Mark Frentzen, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her beloved husband, W. James Syms, DDS, a daughter, Ramona M. Syms, a sister, Leona Frentzen, and a niece, Mary Frentzen-Wisnecki.
Cremation services will be conducted at Trimble Crematory in Moline, Illinois, under the compassionate guidance of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Ramona will find her final resting place in Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Westchester, Illinois.
