Dr. Ralph Radloff died on Friday, December 15th at the age of 95 in Rock Island Illinois. He passed away peacefully at his home with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 68 years, children: Fred, Ann and (Brad Hubbard), David and (Julie Radloff) and Kathy and (Chaminda Wijesinghe), nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A family celebration of Ralph's life is planned for a later date.
Dr. Radloff was born, the youngest of three sons, in 1928 to Paul and Olga Radloff. He graduated from Capital University in 1950 and subsequently served two years in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. While stationed at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, he met Mary Anderson, with whom he began a very happy and rewarding marriage in 1955.
In 1956, Dr. Radloff graduated from Trinity Lutheran Seminary and subsequently served two parishes in Ohio from 1956 to 1965. He attended graduate school at the University of Iowa, where he received a Doctorate of Philosophy degree.
Dr. Radloff accepted a position in the Religion Department at Augustana College in 1968, teaching in the area of World Religions. He very much enjoyed engaging with his students and colleagues at Augustana. He was active in establishing the Asian Foreign Studies Program, which has given hundreds of students the experience of travel and study in Asia. Dr. Radloff retired in 1993.
Preceding Dr. Radloff in death were his parents and his brothers, Paul and Fred.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Condolences may be shared at CremationQC.com.
