Fredrick R. Stahr, Jr., 88, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, in Rosewood Care Center, Moline.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, with The Reverend John Leaf officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member, or to Trinity Pathway Hospice.
Fredrick Romaine Stahr, Jr. was born November 24, 1921, in Silvis, Illinois, the son of Fredrick Sr. and Florence (Balmer) Stahr. He graduated from United Township High School. He married Mary Ellen Foster, his high school sweetheart, on June 9, 1942, in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Fred served in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific, performing medium maintenance artillery repair. He owned and operated Fred Stahr Real Estate and Insurance Agency for 23 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to that, he worked on the Rock Island Arsenal as a machinist.
Fred was a former member of the Independent Insurance Agents, Realtors Assocation, Moline Dad?s Club, Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, Moline, and was past president and founder of the Rock Island County Tax Payers Association. He and his wife were foster parents for over 75 children.
He enjoyed his life, especially working, politics, fishing, golf, and being with his family.
Fred is survived by his children and their spouses, Rick Stahr of Rock Island, Illinois, Julie Ann and Gary McWilliams of Glenview, Illinois, Gerry and Debbie Stahr of Coal Valley, Illinois, and Tim Stahr of Moline; grandchildren and their spouses, Greg and Janet McWilliams, Katherine and Brian Allen, Andrew and Jennifer Stahr, Nicole and Chuck Ashmore, and Brian Stahr; nine great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Warren Pinter of Cherry, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Winifred Stahr; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Stahr, and sisters, Alvada Little and Helen Misfeldt.
