Quenten M. “Shorty” Longley, 91, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, June 4, 2012, in Trinity Rock Island.
Services are Noon Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Randy Heckman officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church, Moline, where he was a member, or the Leukemia Research Foundation.
Quenten Merwin Longley was born September 20, 1920, in Viola, Illinois, the son of Faye and Laura (Fell) Longley. He married Shirley Hutchinson on February 26, 1948, in Cambridge, Illinois.
Quenten owned and operated Longley Time Products in Coal Valley from 1960 until 1980, when he sold the company to his son. He was a Founding Father of the National Time Equipment Association, and was an active member of the Holiday Rambler Club, the Moline Family Campers, Viola Masonic Lodge #577, and the High Twelve Club.
He and his wife were avid campers, traveling the country together and with their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed cribbage and walking the mall.
Shorty is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Shirley, of Coal Valley; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Lori Longley of Coal Valley, grandchildren, Matthew (Kathy) Helms, Doug Helms, Lori (Carl) DePooter, Amy (Jay) Longley, Carrie (John) Mahlo, Kristin Longley, Nick Cornell, Nathan Cornell, and Aubree (Chris) Ebalo; great-grandchildren, Christine, Garrett, Kyron, Kaydin, Jaylin, Gavin, Leah, Claire, Ashley, and Riley; a brother, Larry Longley; an aunt, Bernice Merz; and sisters-in-law, Alice Vinstrand, Dorothy Anderson, and Dorothy Longley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Diane Helms, and a brother, Robert Longley.
