Phyllis Shrader, 96, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Private services have taken place, with burial at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, or the American Heart Association. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, assisted the family.
The former Georgia Phyllis Loquist was born November 17, 1918, in Rio, Illinois, the daughter of George and Helga Loquist. She graduated from Alpha High School and later attended Moline Business College. She married Richard "Dick" Shrader on August 10, 1941, in Moline. He died May 27, 2000.
She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for five years and was a Rock Island county Election Judge for 25 years. She was an active member of First Congregational Church, serving on the Floral-Service Guild, holding many offices, and was Chairwoman of the Bazaar in 1973. She was a member of the Elizabeth Jane Brashear Circle of King's Daughters, the Rock Island County Historical Society Auxiliary, the Moline Literary Guild, and Short Hills Country Club.
She devoted a lot of her time to others, serving as a board member for the Moline YWCA, and as a member of the Moline Jaycettes, Logan School PTA, Junior Service League, and Moline Woman's Club and Garden Depts. #5 & #6. She loved to do for others, travel, play bridge, and "collect".
Phyllis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Crescynthia Shrader of Conyers, Georgia; a daughter, Barbara Meredith of Moline; a granddaughter, Sarah Hayes and her fiancé, Michael McMahon of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; a grandson, Thomas Meredith of Gas, Kansas; a sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Dick Hendrickson of Columbus, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Wally Loquist.
