Phyllis Lynn Hutmacher passed away at the home of her daughter , Karen Hutmacher on June 18, 2024, surrounded by family members. While in hospice, Karen provided 24/7 home care to Phyllis with assistance from Phyllis’ niece, Celeste Schweiger. Celeste’s help was outstanding and greatly appreciated.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.
Phyllis was born December 12, 1944 in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Steve and Inez Murphy. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Memphis. She married Richard (Dick) Hutmacher in Memphis on January 23, 1965. She then moved to Muscatine, Iowa where Dick and Phyllis began their life together.
Their marriage resulted in one son, Eric Hutmacher (Lori) of Fruitland, Iowa and two daughters; Teri Tranoris (Ken) of Cape Coral, Florida and Karen Hutmacher of Muscatine. They have five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Over the years Phyllis worked at two Muscatine Banks and was the office manager and receptionist for Doctor George Ritson for many years. For the past 13 years she worked as a Direct Support Personnel for New Choices Inc., working with adults with disabilities to help them in daily living skills. A New Choices member said, “Phyllis was a positive influence and role model. We loved her wit.”
Phyllis was an adept bridge player, loved to play Bingo and collect Fenton glassware. She and Dick made many trips throughout the U.S. , and locally, to peruse antique stores for her to collect Fenton glassware and Dick to collect sporting books and duck decoys.
Phyllis’ passing is a tremendous loss to her family, especially her grandchildren who referred to her lovingly as “Mama Hoot.” She was always ready to volunteer to help when her children were in school. An annual, traditional activity in the early years was to Christmas shop with her mother-in-law and Phyllis’ two daughters over Thanksgiving weekend. She attended many of her grandchildren’s activities including dance recitals, soccer games, tae kwon do activities, and birthday parties.
Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Steve, and one sister, Eileen. She is survived by her husband, Dick, and all her children, (Eric, Teri, and Karen.) Her five grandchildren include Saxon Hutmacher (Maria) of Wesby, Wisconsin, Kirsti Mahon (Justin) and daughter, Gracie Lee of Naples Florida, Konnor, Tranoris, (Sabrina) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and their twins, Kollin and Lilly, and Brody and Ashley Hutmacher of Fruitland, IA.
