Phyllis Baraks Lakin, 92, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Moline, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, in Mi Casa Care Center, Mesa.
Friends are invited to join the family at a graveside service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Coal Valley Cemetery, and at a reception to follow at the Moline Holiday Inn. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Association.
The former Phyllis Ellen McGimpsey was born August 8, 1912, in Coal Valley, the daughter of James and Anna (Cook) McGimpsey. She married John Baraks on September 5, 1931, in Coal Valley. He died July 20, 1963. She married Eugene Lakin on May 17, 1969, in Coal Valley. She was a cook for Oak Glen Home, Americana Nursing home, and Sky Line Inn. She loved cooking and traveling.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Eugene; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Dorothe Baraks of Hampton, Illinois; two grandsons, John and Michael Baraks; seven great-grandchildren, James, Ronald, Jeffrey, Chance, Sarah and Hanna Baraks and Angela Hayles; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, two sisters, Arlene Rogers and Eleanor Sutton, and a brother, William McGimpsey.
