Phyllis I. Akers

Phyllis I. Akers, 89, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Sunday, July 23, 2023, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 28, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with Rev. Tim Snart officiating.  Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until time of services.  Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Beulah Presbyterian Church, Orion, where she was a member.

The former Phyllis Irene Lundquist was born May 2, 1934, in Oneida, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Leota (Roach) Lundquist. 

She met the love of her life, Charles “Roy” Akers, in October of 1950, while working at Carlquist Market in Moline.  The couple married on June 22, 1951, in Blandinsville, Illinois.  She worked for Oak Glen Home in Coal Valley.  She then worked as a cook at Arrowhead Ranch in Coal Valley for 38 years, retiring in 2003.

Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of over 72 years, Roy; four children and their spouses, C. David and Karen Akers of Oviedo, Florida, Debbie and Jeff Dahl of Orion, Darla and Mike Phelps of Sherrard, and Dan and Cindy Akers of Orion; grandchildren, Heather (Randy) Nichols, Josh Akers, Heath Akers, Danielle Akers, Andy (Jill) Dahl, Jacob Phelps, Erica (Jeremy) Maere, Kimberly (Chad) Blanchard, and Katlyn Akers; 14 great-grandchildren with two on the way; a great-great-grandson; and siblings, Carol McCall of East Moline, and James (Rosann) Lundquist of Ohio.  She was preceded in death by her grandson and great-grandson, Matthew and Kash Phelps, and siblings, Harry Lundquist, Doris VanDaele, Jean VanDeVoorde, and Betty Porter.

Phyllis will be dearly missed by all.
