Perschmann Monson

Robert A. Monson, 94, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, in Bickford Cottage, Davenport, Iowa.

Private graveside services are Tuesday morning at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or a favorite charity. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.

Robert Alan Monson was born December 29, 1916, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Martin and Anna Brudos Monson. He married Marion Mitchell on October 7, 1944, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II as a radioman in a PBY Seaplane Squadron, and received a Navy citation for seaplane rescue. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 35 years, retiring as manager of the Rock Island office in 1976. He was past president of Short Hills Country Club, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Rock Island Chamber of Commerce, a 20 year member of the Rock Island Kiwanis Club, and a former member and Trustee of First Congregational Church, Moline. He enjoyed playing golf.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marion; two children and their spouses, Marcia and Gary Dohrn of Lynn Center, Illinois, and Tracy and Carolyn Monson of Moline; five grandchildren, Heather Dohrn-Schmit and her husband Matt Schmit, Joe Dohrn and his wife Ashley, Mitchell Monson, Carrie Monson, and Jennifer Ruud and her husband Jon; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Morley of Lincoln, Nebraska, and brothers, Don Monson of Palm Desert, California, and Richard Monson of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
