Pearl Ethel Barnes, 101, of Preemption died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at her home.

Funeral Services are 10:30 AM, Friday at Pearl's home, 1456 Highway 67, Preemption. Burial is in Preemption Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Pearl's home. Memorials may be made to the Pearl Barnes Memorial Fund. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl was born on February 12, 1900 at the family home in Preemption Township, Mercer County, Illinois to James R. and Hannah (Ramsey) Barnes. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1916, Matherville High School in 1918 and Western Illinois State Teachers College in 1928. She also did post graduate studies at the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago. Pearl was a school teacher serving the Viola, New Boston, Matherville, Preemption, Berwick and Sherrard School Systems. She retired in 1965 from Sherrard Schools. Pearl and her sister, Leona , also operated the Barnes Family Farm.

Pearl was a member of the Preemption United Methodist Church; Mercer County Home Extension; Past Presidents Association of Mercer County Home Extension; Reynolds Woman's Club; Mercer County Farm Bureau and was Past President of Illinois Home Bureau Federation.

Pearl is survived by a cousin, Jo Anne Barnes and her family of Preemption and several distant cousins. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Leona May Barnes and a sister in infancy, Muriel Grace Barnes.
