Paul T. Liggitt

Rock Island, Illinois Paul T. Liggitt, 78, of Rock Island, well known Rock Island broadcaster and community leader, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services are 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Private interment is in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Radio Station WVIK at Augustana College or the Rock Island Public Library. Paul was born July 27, 1922, in Lexington, Illinois, the son of Paul Sr. and Crete (Adams) Liggitt. He graduated from Northwestern University, and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in Europe during WW II. He married Anne McCaw on December 4, 1943, in Jacksonville, Florida. She died May 27, 1998. Paul was employed in the News Department of WHBF TV and Radio for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He was one of the pioneers of television boradcasting the the Quad Cities. He was active in the community in many organizations. He served on the Boards of Directors of Child Abuse Council, Alternatives for Older Adults, Mississippi Valley Chapter of Alzheimer's Association, Iowa-Illinois Health Care Alliance, Governor's State Wide Health Coordinating Council, and Quad City Economic Growth Corporation. He was one of the founders of the Youth Guidance Council of Rock Island, which is now Youth Service Bureau of Rock Island County, chairman of the Rock Island Housing Authority, South Rock Island Township Road commissioner, and past president of Rock Island County Young Republicans. He was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, Mississippi Valley Sports Car Club, National Association of Broadcasters for Community Affairs, Illinois News Broadcasting Association, Mississippi Valley Press club, the Iowa-Illinois Public Relations Council, and Rock Island Optimist Club, He was a volunteer at the Rock Island Public Library, a Reader for Radio Station WVIK, and was an avid Bridge player. Paul is survived by a daughter, Christie Liggitt, a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Suzanne Liggitt, and two granddaughters, Christie Liggitt and Kimberly Liggitt, all of Rock Island.
