Paul E. Harlander, 85, of New Windsor, Illinois, formerly of Viola, Illinois, died Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Illinois.
Graveside Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lutheran Cemetery, Orion, Illinois. Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements.
Paul was born June 6, 1932, in Valley Park, Missouri, the son of Philip and Ruth (Standefer) Harlander. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before marrying Marilyn Craft. Marilyn died January 1, 1995.
He worked for the Rock Island Railroad as a brakeman for many years. He enjoyed farming on the side on his land in Viola. He also liked working with wood.
Paul is survived by brothers, Tom Harlander, of Wood River, Illinois, and John Harlander of South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Donna Craft of Tacoma, Washington; and special friends, Jennifer and Wade Viager of New Windsor, and their families, who were just like family to Paul. He was preceded in death a brother, Fred Harlander, and a sister, Phyllis Girt .
