Patricia L. Race

Patricia Race, 85, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Saturday, July 1, 2023, in her home.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.

The former Patricia Lee Achilles was born December 21, 1937, in Canon Falls, Minnesota, to Rheinhart and Selma (Hoidal) Achilles. She graduated from UTHS, East Moline, and married Vern Race on September 4, 1960, in Port Byron, Illinois. He died October 21, 2014. She was secretary at Hawthorne-Irving School, Rock Island, for several years.  She was a member of Twin Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island, Red Hat Society, and Second Winders Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and traveling.

Pat is survived by five children and their spouses, Pat and Larry Ochs of Enon, Ohio, Nancy and Bernard Pugh of Sheffield, Alabama, Gary and Kim Race of Littleton, Colorado, Marcia Risden of Rock Island, and Mark and Jamie Race of Peoria, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sisters, Susie Bender and Rochelle Gunneman, both of Hampton, Illinois.  She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Jeff Achilles.
