East Moline, Illinois Oscar S. Cornejo, age 83, of East Moline, died Monday, January 20, 2003 at Riverpark Healthcare Center in Rock Island, Illinois. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 30, 2003, at 2:00 PM in Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, Illinois with the Reverend Becky Sherwood officiating. Oscar Salvador Cornejo was born September 19, 1919 in Cienfuegos, Cuba the son of Salvador and Eva (Betancourt) Cornejo. He was reared and educated in Boston, Massachusetts. Oscar graduated from Boston University and began his business career as Publications Production Manager for the Raytheon Manufacturing Company, Waltham, Massachusetts. His marriages include; Edna G. Finney (the mother of his three children) on February 12, 1942 in Massachusetts, Marsha Payne in 1963 in East Moline, and Irmgard Smith on October 29, 1975 in East Moline. During WWII, Mr. Cornejo served in an enlisted status in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, on active duty, from 21 August 1943 through October 1, 1944. On October 2, 1944 he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and served in such capacity until April 21, 1946 when we was ordered to inactive duty. He joined the Organized Marine Corps Reserve on January 1, 1947 and was commissioned a First Lieutenant on October 2, 1947. He was called to extended active duty for the Korean Conflict from September 6, 1950 until March 11, 1952. Oscar was employed as an Overseas Advertising and Public Relations Manager for 21 years at Deere & Company, retiring in 1982. In 1970 and again in 1982, Oscar was the recipient of the "MAN OF THE YEAR" award, the highest award given by the IAA-America Chapter. He was widely published, with articles on international advertising appearing in Industrial Marketing, Export Trade, Advertising Age, Printer's Ink, the International Executive, Advertising World, and in the International Advertiser. He enjoyed traveling abroad, photography, and antiques. Survivors include his wife, Irmgard of East Moline; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and William Nuckel of Eatontown, New Jersey; two sons, Richard Cornejo of Woodland Hills, California, and Dennis Cornejo of Pacific Grove, California; three grandchildren, Frank Bounassi, Anthony Bounassi, and Dennis Cornejo; four great-grandchildren, Gianna Bounassi, Paige Bounassi, Tyler Bounassi, and Lauren Bounassi.
