Ora W. “Corky” Aten, 98, of Winston, Missouri, formerly of Silvis, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron, Missouri.
Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Rock Island National Cemetery. Rev. Tim Snart will officiate and Moline American Legion will present military honors. A family luncheon will be held at CityView Celebrations following the burial.
Ora Weldon Aten was born January 16, 1923, in Swan Creek, Illinois, to Hiram and Pearl (Marner) Aten. He married Vivian Bel on December 31, 1945. She died September 26, 2002. He served in the US Navy in both WW II and Korea. Ora retired from the Rock Island Lines, and was then a locomotive consultant and worked for Iowa Interstate Railroad. He was a member of Silvis Lodge #898, AF & AM, and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline. He enjoyed reunions with shipmates from the USS Guadalupe, and loved his farm in Missouri.
Corky is survived by six children and spouses, Georgia and David Baraks of Coal Valley, Jeffrey and Patty Aten of Blue Springs, Missouri, Bill and Grace Aten of Apple Valley, California, Don and Carolyn Aten of Blue Springs, Jennifer Hanley of Kernville, California, and Marian and Patrick Collison of Bondurant, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and spouses, Jana Baraks, Jyll and Matt Moore, Quinn and Lindsay Hanley, Erin Hanley, Brice Hanley, Michael and Samantha Collison, Jessi and Dustin Cassler, Matthew Collison, Derek Aten, Darci Aten, Shayla Aten, Kiki Aten, Ian Aten, Kevin and Jennifer Aten, and Alivia and Dean Grace; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son-in-law, John Hanley; and five siblings.
