Olive S. Wilson, 93, formerly of East Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Burgin Manor Nursing Home, Olney, Illinois, where she had resided for the past 5 years.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverends Deb and Flint Miller officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Moline.
The former Olive Florene Sparks was born January 14, 1917, in Jasper County, near Bogota, Illinois, the daughter of Claude and Millie Reed Sparks. She married Robert E. Wilson on August 17, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa. He died May 13, 1991. Olive worked at the Buddy L toy factory in East Moline for 25 years, retiring in 1969. She had previously worked at S. S. Kresge in Moline and at the John Deere war assembly plant during WW II.
She was a member of the Plus 60 Club, AARP, and the First Baptist Church, Moline, Illinois. Olive enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and Minnesota and watching most sports, especially her local high school basketball team.
Her survivors include nieces, Lois Lutz of Sarasota, Florida, Berdenia Cox of Fulton, Missouri, Janice Zapalski of Manhatten, Illinois, and Cheryl Penka of Wilmington, Illinois; nephews, Gordon Peterson of Long Beach, California, George Peterson of Englewood, Colorado, Wayne Peterson of McMinnville, Oregon, Keith Sparks of Charleston, Illinois, Dennis Wilson of West Liberty, Illinois, and Edward Wilson of West Liberty, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers, Lowell, Dean, Ernie, and Bertie Sparks.
