Norman Tornes, 86, of Milan, Illinois, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, September 2, 2013, in UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Norman was born June 25, 1927, in Spruce Grove, Minnesota, the son of Peder and Agnes Ronne Tornes. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and married Katharina Bauss on June 27, 1953, in Munich, Germany. She died May 14, 1995. He was employed by John Deere for 33 years, retiring as Quality Control Inspector at Deere's Plow-Planter Cylinder Division in 1987. He was a member of the VFW and UAW, and enjoyed golf and gardening.
Norm is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ralph and Sandra Tornes of Coal Valley and Steve Tornes of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two grandchildren, Grant Larson of Iowa City, Iowa, and Nannette Park and her husband Danny of Fort Collins, Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Park and Kennedy Larson; and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katharine; a sister, Eleanor Tornes; and brothers, Palmer and Harold Tornes.
