Norman D. Goetz

Norman D. Goetz, 80, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Silvis, died Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to UnityPoint Hospice.

He was born July 14, 1936, in Salem, Oregon, the son of Eugene and Philomene (Wasinger) Goetz. He married Marcella Charlotte Bunch on January 28, 1956, in Attica, Indiana. She died July 12, 1995. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was proclaimed an "Ambassador for Peace" by the Republic of Korea.

Norm was an agent and sales manager for Prudential Insurance Company for 21 years. He retired in 1991, having been awarded many national awards of achievement over the years. He was a former member of the Moline VFW Post #2153, and the Life Underwriters Association. He enjoyed collecting coins, bowling, dancing, smoking his cigarettes, and gambling at the casino.

He is survived by six children, Yvonne and Alfred Carr of Waterloo, Iowa, Marilyn and Ron Taets of Coal Valley, Yolanda and Richard Coppings of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Rickard and Kim Goetz of Colona, Norman "Don" Jr. and Lorey Goetz of East Moline, and Ronald Goetz of Moline; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob Goetz, Elmer and Cheryl Harlan, Donna and Jim Quibodeaux, Mary and Bobby Ryan, and Patrick and Josie Harlan, all of California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, and brothers, Charles, Melvin, and Rodney.
