Nellie Baraks Fuelling, 98, of Orion, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church,Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hope Creek Care Center.
The former Nellie Marie Maas was born March 16, 1914, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Annie Kraklow Maas. She married Raymond Baraks in 1934, in Sycamore, Illinois. He died in 1961. She married Martin Fuelling in 1968, in Coal Valley. He died in 1994. She was an inhalation therapist at the former Moline Lutheran Hospital, and previously worked at the former Oak Glen Home. She ran the roller rink in Coal Valley for several years during WW II.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion, Orion Women?s Club, and McGuffey?s Readers. She was very active in the community, and volunteered in many areas, including Lutheran Hospital Auxilary, Bishop Hill Museum, PTA, 4-H, Boy Scouts, and typing braille.
Nellie is survived by four children and their spouses, Joan and Keith Glaus of Coal Valley, Nancy and Roger Smart of East Moline, Fred and Jan Baraks of Warsaw, Missouri, and David and Georgia Baraks of Coal Valley; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five step-children and their spouses, Ann and David Collier of Milan, Illinois, Bob and Dorothy Fuelling of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dorothy Stewart of Chicago, John and Ann Fuelling of Moline, and Mark and Mary Fuelling of Geneseo, Illinois; and seven step-grandchildren and their families. She was preceded in death by her husbands, a sister, Mildred Swider, and brothers, Ralph, Glenn and Donald Maas.
