Nancy J. Grawe, 81, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, February 16, 2018, in her home.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, with Fr. Jim DeBisschop officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The former Nancy Jean Holman was born January 25, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry and Carol (Herriman) Holman. She grew up in Ocean Beach, California, graduating from Point Loma High School, Kelsey Jenning Business College, and San Diego Modeling School. She married Richard Grawe on February 14, 1955, in Yuma, Arizona.
Nancy owned and operated Valley Open Air Market and Greenhouse, retiring in 2002. Her greatest pride, however, came from her career of being a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a 35-year member of Al-Anon. She was also a talented woman in many areas, including crafts, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Dick; her children, Diana and Tim Peterson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Donald Grawe of Moline, David Grawe of Coal Valley, and Debra and Ed Greif of Silvis; six grandchildren; Jessie Peterson, Jason (Pam) Peterson, Justin (Liz) Peterson, Kristen (Mike) Grchan, Mason (Nikki) Grawe, and Courtney Grawe; eight great-grandchildren, Ellis and Jackson, Tabitha and Alexander, Mackenzie and Bailey, and Ryan and Sage; and brothers, Roger Holman of San Diego, and Richard Holman of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Irvin and Maggie Grawe; a granddaughter, Rebecca Grawe; and a sister, Donna Holman.
The family would like to give special thanks to Heartland Hospice (especially Ashley and Darla), and Dr. Garneau and his staff for the wonderful care they gave to Nancy.
