Myron (Mike) Eugene Hunzeker, 85, of Peoria passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016. He was born July 21, 1931 to Erwin and Olive Rist Hunzeker in Humboldt, Nebraska. Myron married the love of his life, Joan Caldwell, on June 13, 1953 after graduating from Iowa State University with a double major in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan. This beloved man is survived by his children Ann Hunzeker (Greg Falada), Michael Hunzeker, and Randal (Kim) Hunzeker; his sister, Ruth Hunzeker; five grandchildren who were the lights of his life, and eight great grandchildren. Myron served in the Navy during the Korean War and was cremated with a retired flag in honor of service to his country.
At the age of 30, Myron became the youngest franchise owner at Trane Heating and Air Conditioning. He then proceeded to open three companies: Hunzeker Trane, Midwest Parts, and Hunzeker Service Agency. Myron was unique in his ability to appreciate others' talents, and at the same time, mentor them to be the most successful they could be. He took pride in the fact others would tell him how much he influenced their life paths.
In his free time, he found joy in trading stocks and fishing. Myron was a generous donor to animal and local social relief charities. He was also an active Board Member for many years at Kemmerer Village and Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Per Myron's request, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Northminster Presbyterian Church, Pets for Seniors, or Friends of Strays.
