Marian J. Sikardi, 81, of East Moline died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Entombment is in Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the East Moline Public Library Homebound Services program, which Marian used and appreciated for several years.
The former Marian Jeanne Wilson was born in Coal Valley, Ill., on August 3, 1929, the daughter of Vernon and Eda Pearson Wilson. She married Andrew M. Sikardi on July 29, 1952, in Rock Island. They shared 47 years of marriage when Andrew died July 18, 1999.
She graduated from Coal Valley Community High School in 1947. She graduated from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. From 1951 to 1952, she was a staff nurse at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois. From 1952 to 1959, she did private duty nursing. From 1959 to 1984, Marian was employed at Moline Public Hospital where she was a staff nurse, then a night supervisor, and from 1975 to 1982, Director of Nurses. From 1982 to 1984, she was the Nursing Standards Coordinator. Marian retired in 1984.
Marian listed membership in the National Association of Directors of Nursing; Infection Control and Quality Assurance. Marian?s many activities included working with young women in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, where she was Mother Advisor of Moline Assembly #22, served on its advisory board, was a member of the Mother?s Club, and a holder of the Grand Cross of Color. She held membership in the Order of Eastern Star, Moline Chapter #258, and Red Hat Society, and bowled for many years with co-workers on a team named, ?The Pill Pushers.? Marian enjoyed shopping with her daughters, knitting afghans for those she loved, traveling throughout the United States and Canada with Andy, camping, and playing cards and bingo with her friends at Park Vista Retirement Community where she has resided since 1998.
She is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, James W. and Sheila Sikardi of Erie, Ill., and Thomas A. and Kim Sikardi of Hillsdale, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne A. and Robert Housholder of Champaign, Ill., and Karen Sue and Pastor James Higdon of Corydon, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Thomas Sikardi, Jr. and his wife Joelle, Timothy Sikardi, Wade Huntley and his wife Randi, Jonathan Sikardi, Jill Anderson and her husband Joshua, Kyle Sikardi and his wife Kelly, Benjamin Higdon and his wife Crystal, Terri Lynn Higdon, and Ethan Housholder. Marian had 11 great-grandchildren, Carter, Sawyer, and Klaire Sikardi, Kaelynn, Lillian, and Darien Sikardi, Natalie Pearson-Sikardi, Norah and William Huntley, and Mary Lynn and Andrew Higdon. She is also survived by a sister, Rosalie Cliff of Rock Island, and a brother, Vernon Wilson Jr. of Colona. She was proceeded in death by her husband Andrew; a brother, Robert Wilson; grandsons, Erik Huntley and Scott Sikardi; and a great-granddaughter, Christine Sikardi.
