Virginia Curtis, 90, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Trinity Rock Island.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Cancer Center, Moline.
The former Virginia Irene Whitten was born August 30, 1920, in Baylis, Illinois, the daughter of Seth Coates and Nellie (Grammer) Whitten. She married Norman E. Curtis on February 3, 1940, in Hannibal, Missouri. He died November 9, 1998.
Virginia graduated from business college and worked for J. J. Newberry in Rock Island. She enjoyed puzzles, needlework, reading, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Virginia is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Judy Curtis of Coal Valley, and Scott and Linda Curtis of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Jeff and Michele Curtis of Coal Valley, Debbie and Donald Finkle of Moline, Steph Curtis and Steve Holmes of Davenport, Kelly Curtis of Austin, Texas, Emily Ottman and Steve Kline of Davenport, and Clay Ottman of Iowa City, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters, Helen Sise, Louisa Powell, Mary Waters, and Marjorie Sheely, and brothers, Marion, Chester, and Charles Whitten.
