Moneta M. Martin, 91, a long-time Milan, Illinois, resident, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Amber Ridge Assisted Living, Moline, Illinois
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, Illinois. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion, Illinois. Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Preemption United Methodist Church, where she was a member.
The former Moneta May Morrison was born March 31, 1923, in rural Orion, Illinois, to Joseph and Clara Coulter Morrison, She married Duane Forest Martin on March 1, 1947, in Coal Valley. He died June 10, 2009. She was employed by Sherrard School District as a primary teacher at the former Coyne Center School for 20 years, retiring in 1980. She previously taught in rural one-room schools. She enjoyed china painting and was a member of the Mississippi River Bend Porcelain Decorators organization.
Moneta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Cromwell Bowen of Orion; a grandson, David Bowen of Orion; a granddaughter and her husband, Danielle and Alexander Gorbach of Milan; and two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Gorbach.
