Mildred C. Griffith, 98, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, in her home.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, Moline, with The Revs. Craig Jan-McMahon and Michael Swartz officiating. Entombment is in Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church or the Harold P. Griffith Chapter of Moline High School National Honor Society Foundation. Mildred and her husband, Harold, started the Harold P. Griffith Scholarship Fund in 1982, which later became the Foundation.

The former Mildred Clarice Schiess was born March 12, 1919, in Reynolds, Illinois, to George and Hilma Pearson Schiess. She worked as a secretary in the Special Auditing Department of Modern Woodmen of America from 1938 until her marriage. She married Harold on January 6, 1945, in The Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. He died October 23, 2004.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline American Legion Auxiliary, Moline Viking Club, and AARP. She was an excellent cook and baker, loved music, especially vocal and piano, and enjoyed letter writing and sending cards.

Mildred is survived by four children and their spouses, Gloria and Steve Wisley of Coal Valley, Illinois, John Griffith of Moline, Joline and Steve Schroder of Rock Island, and Jeffrey and Pamela Griffith of East Moline; a son-in-law, Joe Billman of Dumfries, Virginia; five grandchildren, Katie Johnson and her husband Will, Laura Griffith and her fiancé Paul Bull, Scott Griffith and his wife Nicole, Eric Schroder, and Jennifer Schroder; one great-grandchild, Ellie Johnson, and another she was eagerly awaiting; and her brother, Marvin Schiess of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a daughter, Karen Billman; a grandson, Andy Billman; and a sister, Marion Johnson.
