Michael J. Moran was born February 8, 1946, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Joseph and Joan (Danforth) Moran. After moving to Santa Monica, CA, he graduated high school and proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in The Viet Nam Campaign.
He married, the love of his life, Carol Pope on October 6, 1972, in Los Angeles, CA. Relocating to Moline, IL he became a successful business owner of Geordon Sod III for over 30 years. He later took on a liking to over the road truck driving and welcomed the adventure.
He was a devoted husband for over 50 years, a loving father to his three children and proud grandfather of six. He had a great passion for music and fine automobiles. But nothing meant more to him than honoring his family and the Marines. He had the biggest heart with even bigger hugs. Always to greet with a hug or a firm handshake, he never met a stranger. He was truly one of a kind.
Michael is survived by his wife, Carol; three children, Jason (Boon) Moran of Christiana, Tennessee, Juliane Moran of Moline, and Maeghan (Jorge) Moran of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Reilly O’Tool, Hannah Moran, Logan Moran, Izel Gomez, Matias Gomez, Mitchai Kanjanabout and beloved dog, Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services to celebrate Michael’s life will be held this summer and announced later. Cremation will take place under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
