Michael J. "Spanky" Hendricks, 44, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, in his residence.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in the Rock Island Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 1:00 p.m. Friends are asked to dress casually for all services, and encouraged to wear their favorite Chicago sports team apparel in memory of Mike. Memorials may be made to the family for his sons' education.
Michael John Hendricks was born September 7, 1970, in Rock Island, the son of Donald "Mike" and Daye-Ann (Olson) Hendricks. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1988. He served in the United States Air Force during Operation Desert Storm, during which he received many commendations including a Southwest Asia Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars. He went on to receive his Associates Degree in Nursing from Blackhawk College. He married Regina Navarro on May 30, 1998, in Moline.
Mike worked for all three campus' of UnityPoint Health in General Surgery as an RN First Assist. He also served as a robotic coordinator for the hospitals.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, and the Mexican American Golf League. He loved the outdoors, especially golfing, fishing, and grilling. Above all else, he enjoyed being with, and cooking for, his family and many friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Fierce, Dr. Garneau and their teams, Hospice Compassus, and the operating room staff at UnityPoint for their support.
Mike is survived by his wife, Gina, and their two sons, Alex and Kyle Hendricks; all of Rock Island; his parents, Mike Hendricks of Rock Island, and Daye-Ann Hendricks of Moline; three nieces that were like daughters to him, Kayla Schanfish and Brandy Lamar, both of Rock Island, and Katie Webster of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Angela (Matt) Marlier of Moline, Christine (Jay) Webster of Las Vegas, and Michelle (Thad) Crass of Rock Island; 16 nieces and nephews; two great-nephews; Gina's parents and siblings, Ramon and Mary Navarro of Silvis, Anna (José) Castro and Ramon (Wendy) Navarro, all of Moline, and their families; and close friends, Travis Allen of Chicago, Larry Bennett of Elgin, Illinois, and Larry Orth, Dave Sierens, and Dave Wells, all of Rock Island.
